Learning how to read a scientific report.

Kia ora,
We are learning how to read and write scientific reports. We have been doing experiments and writing about them. This is a reading activity we did. We had to be able to match a title for a report with a wondering question.

We are learning how to understand the structure and language of a report about a scientific experiment.
In this exercise you need to match a title with its question. Use the ‘Fill tool’ to colour code the matching ideas.
Notice that none of these questions begin with a ‘Why….’.  This is because the purpose of a scientific experiment report is to share what you thought you knew, what you thought would happen and your observations about what actually did happen. It’s a bit like you are saying:
I’m wondering this…..because I know this…...so therefore if I do this I think this might happen.
So, at the end of a successful scientific report, you may not be able to say why something happened but you will be on the way to finding out why.
Then, when you do find out why, you will have to learn how to write an Explanation. The purpose of  Explanation writing is to answer Why questions. So, do not be surprised if your teachers decide to teach you Explanation writing later on!!!

Multiplying by 10, 100, 1000

Hello,

this week at school I've been Multiplying by 10, 100, 1000.
If you have any number that has a zero at the end of it like: 14 times 100. You'd do 14 times 1 and add the two zeros to get your answer. You can do this to any equation but, the bigger number you times the more zeros you will need to add to the end. This strategy is a simple way to times big numbers like this:
(To view these images bigger click on them)
                 The way I solved this:
I can easily figure out this equation because, I know that 73 times 1 =73.
All you'd be left with is a zero.Add that to the end and that's your answer.

Rose

We are learning how to get better marks in our writing bu using hooks, similes and metaphors.I decided to write about my gorgeous sister, Rose Rangimarie Ratahi.

                                                               Rose.
“Hi, baby Rose,” I say as my sister and father walked through the doorway. Her smiles are wide oceans. Her chubby cheeks smushed up like a flat ball, her eyes all squinted up.Cuddling her felt like hugging a teddy bear. She started to smell a bit for a moment. She is my cuddly bear, sweet, adorable, and always happy. It seems to be that she is always happy to see me.

Have you ever heard a noise so loud it makes you shiver? When she cries it sounds like a devil's scream, her tears drown me. She screeches like crazy!!!Although my hearing is good she makes me feel as if I’m deaf. She’s either hungry or just wants something. But she’s always cute to me and I love how she drops her bottom lip and makes cute facials.

She cuddles Mum. Drinks her milk. She has no teeth but ate a whole shortbread!! She is a food vacuum cleaner. When she drifts off to sleep she’s just so cute. She could fool anyone with her smiles.
